| Navajo Nation Fitnessgram Report |
| Fall 1998 to Spring 2002 |
Background |
| The Prudential Fitnessgram is an assessment tool that measures, monitors, and reports student, K-12, individual fitness level. It measures the Body Mass Index (BMI), aerobic capacity, endurance, and muscle strength. BMI provides a guideline based on weight and height to determine underweight and overweight. Students are compared to standards established for each age and sex, and not to each other. The report presents the fitness level results in three zones; needs improvement, within the healthy fitness zone and above healthy fitness zone. Based on the fitness zone, the report also provides appropriate recommendations and encouragements for each student. The Navajo Health Promotion Program and the designated school representatives collaboratively maintain oversight and conduct the assessments every academic semester at schools that agreed to participate in the project. |
